Degeneration of a nation

Dying sparks wilt and wither
Life can no longer bloom
Where the children often played and lingered
Quarantined from the poison of mankind
When hearts are breaking
from stray bullets shaking
waking up a neighbourhood
Because evil desperation lurks on corners
White folk, black folk colour blind robbers
evil eyes glaring, staring looking for prey
to steal away from happy homes
to abandon in forests with ransom notes
When smartest kids turn to weed
Greed and hatred cloud their heads
Murdered dreams lay dead in beds
Naked and uncovered for prying eyes
The death of threats, spies and lies.
The degeneration of this nation
Makes my heart cry out for peace.

Unfathomable Truths

You always hurt the one you love
palms wrapped tight around brown flesh
soft and tender, red and bruised
gasping breaths slow to a stop

You always hurt the one you love
fists folded tight, flailing
wailing, screaming, crying
dying sobs drowned in sheets

You always hurt the one you love
slaving over your favourite meal
stealing hope for a happy return
a merry Christmas and just for you two

You always hurt the one you love
was it love that wrung the knots
twisted, wrapped around the throat
of the woman who gave you life?
